Dorothy Le Moignan
Dorothy Le MoignanMy name is Dorothy and I am a volunteer at Northern Air Hospital Radio. My primary task is to collect requests from patients on the wards during the day. I enjoy chatting to the patients while taking their requests and I find that they enjoy the opportunity of talking to someone who isn't a Doctor or Nurse. I get asked for all kinds of records from Frank Sinatra and Robbie Williams to some bands I'm afraid I've never heard of. I recently took part in some fund raising for Red Nose, Comic Relief Day at our local Sainsbury's Heaton Park. We played records and I was surprised at the number of customers who came up to us and said how much they enjoyed listening to the music as they shopped.

I have been involved in various volunteer projects over the last 40 years. I was involved in starting a Mum & Toddlers club that frequently visited Old Peoples Homes. I also helped to run a Toy Library for disabled children at the former Booth Hall Children's Hospital. I also ran a "Be-friend a Mum" scheme at Booth Hall, this involved chatting to mums who were from out of the area and spent most of their time with their kids at the hospital. I spent many hours getting to know the mums of poorly children and babies and we shared many tears together, however I would like to think there were times when I was able to make them laugh and smile. I am also on a Local Panel for Northwards Housing who look after council properties in the Blackley and Charlestown areas.

When I am not busy volunteering I enjoy eating out and visiting the theatre. However, I mostly enjoy spending time with my 9 year old Grandma who keeps me on my toes !!
